Yesterday I went out with a friend to buy pumpkins and gourds, we soon learnt that they are in very short supply, and three weeks behind the normal growing season! Our only place to find any was Waitrose, where two meagre varieties awaited us. We had visions of loading up the new mini with all sorts of sizes and colours of my favourite Autumn vegetable from a nice country store not the supermarket. However today is a different story, on my travels locally I found a nice selection of gourds and a few pumpkins, the owner told me he planted 1500 seeds and lost almost two-thirds due to the bad weather. My find has definitely turned my house and garden into the autumn season as you can see in the pictures below. I have also included a few pictures of some nice finds over the last few days. I hope you have enjoyed some nice Autumn walks and the sun has shone with a nip in the air and the nice smell of burning fires.
Some of the pumpkins and gourds I bought today from a little farm shop near Botley Southampton.
This is Oscar Sneird and his cat Norman, he has been with me a few years now!
I hang a seasonal quilt on my lounge wall, this is my Autumn one, I love the house.
Scary finds from a previous trip to New England.
I've saved cards from previous Halloween's and anything that looks like autumn, then I display them on a wire hanger on my chalk board in my dining room.
I have a black mini Halloween tree that I load with mini pumpkins and white twinkly lights, which look's great, this year I had kept my Contorted Hazel twigs from Easter, so I thought they would look good in the lounge with a few mini pumpkins on the branches.
One of my lovely friends bough me this sacking pumpkin cushion for my anniversary this year, I love it.
A cheerful pumpkin sits in my conservatory surrounded by a garland of stars and berries.
The next two pictures are of things that smell nice, scented mini pumpkins, scented candle waxes and cassia sticks which are like cinnamon sticks but a lot stronger.
A few nice plants are still hanging on in the garden, such beautiful autumn colours.
A short walk around Alresford in Hampshire found us no pumpkins but a few nice treats.
Enjoy your weekend whatever you do.
