One of the things I achieved in December was making four memory quilts for a lovely lady called Bridget, her two children called Macy and Jack, and Bridget's sister in law Mich.
Bridget's husband Antz was a Search and Rescue helicopter winchman with the RAF, you will notice some RAF badges and other items from his uniform in the quilts, including some gloves with his name written on them.
Each quilt is made up from clothes from Antz's casual clothes, RAF uniform and a selection of clothes and embellishments belonging to each of the recipients that held special memories of when Antz was with them.
These are some amazing family photographs that Bridget had taken to commemorate Antz's Birthday. She wanted to include Antz in the photograph and what better way to do that than to wear his RAF uniform and a selection from his comprehensive woolly hats and scarf collection. Both Macy and Jack contributed to the choice of clothing worn. Stunning aren't they.
This is Bridget's quilt, the green background squares for the hearts and stars are made from Antz's RAF winchmans suit.
Spot the piece of material with the name Antz written by him in marker pen, these were part of Antz's RAF gloves and still being able to see his handwriting brings enormous comfort to Bridget.

This is Jack's quilt, with cheerful bunting, two secret pockets on the front, and a special Scooby Doo T'shirt included of Jack's.

Macy has a very cool quilt which includes lots of her Dad's clothes, RAF badges and buttons, and some of Macy's gorgeous clothes and buttons that were particular favourites and which feature in many family photographs with her Dad.
I particularly like the flower buttons and the stripy braids that adorn the sides of the quilt, which came from one of Macy's skirts.
As with the other quilts a special pocket has been included on the back.

This quilt was made for Bridget's sister in law Mich. Sadly Mich not only lost her brother Antz, but within a couple of weeks her mother also died, so the quilt is made up of clothes from both Antz and their mother.

Unfortunately, many of their mother's clothes had already been given to a charity, so some of her handkerchiefs were used which I think turned out quite well.
I found pleasure and was very pleased with the result of all four quilts. They were opened up on Christmas day, with the exception of Bridget's who quite rightly wanted hers as soon as it arrived in the post.
I hope they have filled a small gap and given warmth and comfort to the new owners. They were challenging and fun to make. Nothing worth having is ever easy as they say.
